| Make a gentle first cut following a straight edge, with the blade straight up-and-down. Make several cuts, each one with more pressure until you can feel the wood dragging on the side of the blade. | ![]() |

| Don't cut toward your hand! | ||||||
| Make a cut in the waste area parallel with the straight cut, and with thhe blade tilted toward it. This is called a 'Clearing-Cut'. | ![]() |

| Cut with a rocking motion (don't slice) at the edge so the knife doesn't slip or gouge the table when it gets there. | ![]() |

| Repeat 'straight-cut' and 'clearing-cut' until you can lift out a ribbon of material. | ![]() |

| Continue making straight and clearing cuts, and lifting out material until you have a "V" all the way to the other face of the Divider. | ![]() |

| Continue around the cutout with straight and clearing cuts until all the lines have been cut. | ![]() |
|||||
| Push the waste piece toward the 'V'-cut side to avoid tearing. | ![]() |
|||||
| Carve and sand the edges of the cutout. | ![]() |
